Welcome to Get Payback, an online interactive computer service which allows the general public to get payback against companies or people who have treated them poorly, stolen from them, ripped them off or done any other type of illegal or immoral activity. Our service offers user a unique way to both seek justice of sorts as well as warn other of the problems they encountered. Get Payback is not a place for people to publish false or defamatory information about another company or person. Every user agrees that what they are publishing is true and accurate, and if what they post is not, they are opening themselves up to liability from the subject of their claim.
From the onset, we built Get Payback with the vision of structuring our site and its policies to take the higher road. There are many sites out there that allow people to post complaints or other types of negative content, but they have policies that we feel are unethical. Many of them will not remove a post if it is proven false under any circumstances. We think this is a bad policy for a number of reasons, not the least of which that it does not help the general public and consumer awareness when a website is littered with false information. Our policies include not only an agreement by every user that what they are posting is true, but also a statement that if what they post is false and we receive a court order and subpoena to release their contact information we will.
Although we do not have the manpower to investigate the accuracy of every claim, we think that our policies make Get Payback a far more reliable source for information than other competing sites currently allowing users to post anything about anyone with no worry of being held accountable. This is simply not right; we believe there is a difference between freedom of speech and just wrong. Does this mean we are sure every post on our site is 100% true? Of course not, we are not in any position to make judgment calls on what people post and we don't. We are an open forum and do not screen content users submit, but unlike most other sites, we do have the available options for people that may have been falsely posted about, and if a post is deemed false by a court we will remove it.
We also allow users who submit posts to remove them. Similarly here other sites will not. Again we feel this highly unethical, sometimes people are mad and act in haste, or simply make a mistake. Having a policy that once you post something it's permanent and can't be removed is simply silly and takes advantage of peoples’ emotions, which may have got the better of them for a short period of time.
