Nothing hurts worse than getting scammed. To clarify, a scam is slightly different than other forms of rip-offs present in the consumer world— not to say that a scam isn’t a form of rip-off, because it is. What a scam is specifically, however, is when the consumer is tricked or deceived into buying products or services that are in some way defective or unnecessary. Being scammed is frustrating to no end, because it tinkers with the relationship of trust between a client and a company. In general, the company takes the client’s money in return for the client getting something that he/she either needs or wants. When this does not happen, or when the company tricks the consumer, this relationship of trust is violated.

This can be extremely humiliating to endure, not to mention expensive. Scamming people is, of course, illegal, and taking the companies or individuals that specialize in scamming to court is always an option. The problem with going to court, however, even if it’s small claims court, is that doing so is often very expensive and time consuming. Many people don’t have the resources or the time to spend taking companies to court over scams. And even in the event that you do choose to take a company to court over scams, you might be surprised how powerful public relations (PR) departments can be in making sure that word of the scam does not get out.
