Some of the worst kinds of offenders we see here on GetPayback.com are the misleading companies or individuals. Misleading could be a bait and switch sort of situation. This means they bait you with a low priced deal or some other incentive to get you in the door. Yet, once you are ready to go, they change the product up on you.

This happens all the time in some industries—for example, the used car dealership that advertises a cheap bottom of the line car in the local newspaper. Nobody ever buys that car; in fact, in a lot of instances that car doesn’t even exist. They just put the carrot out there to get people in the door. This is a perfect example of misleading.

Another common misleading example is weight loss pills, potions, patches and more. These companies have multiple marketing messages about losing a ton of weight. However, if you look at the fine print at the bottom of those commercials, it often reads “results not typical.” It’s amazing that these companies are even allowed to advertise results that are not typical. You wouldn’t go to a grocery store that advertised a certain product at a discount price if there was a disclaimer across the bottom that said “price not typical” right?

Individuals can be misleading as well. Imagine you are working with a contractor or other service provider that tells you they can do the job at X amount and in X amount of time, only to find out that they had no intention of doing either. Maybe they double (or triple) booked, maybe they simply didn’t do it. Of course, once they are in the door, the chances are low that you will fire them. Most people just put up with the delay, which is exactly what they are counting on.

Misleading companies and people must be stopped in their tracks. You simply can’t put up with this sort of behavior. That’s why contracts should include statements like “time is of the essence” or other clauses to protect yourself from scammers.
